Leave It Better

Every year, we work to better understand the environmental impact of the Arc'teryx Alpine Academy and identify where we can make meaningful improvements.

Our approach is simple: measure our impact, reduce emissions where possible, support the places that host us, and improve year after year.

Measuring Our Impact

Every year, we work to better understand the environmental impact of the Arc'teryx Alpine Academy and identify where we can make meaningful improvements.

Our approach is simple: measure our impact, reduce emissions where possible, support the places that host us, and improve year after year.

Chamonix Community

For more than 15 editions, Arc'teryx Alpine Academy has been rooted in Chamonix. The event exists first and foremost to serve and celebrate the local mountain community, bringing together guides, athletes, local organizations, partners and visitors to share knowledge and build connection.

We continue to work closely with local organisations, businesses and authorities to ensure the Academy remains anchored in the valley while respecting the people who call it home.

Partners Include: Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, Chamonix Experience, Compagnie du Mont Blanc, Redeem Equipment, La Crea, La Chamoniarde, Access Mont Blanc, CREA, ENSA, Courir Pour To, En Passant Par La Montagne

Waste & Upcycling

Reducing waste begins with designing materials to stay in use for longer.

Across the Academy we continue to minimise disposable materials through reuse, recycling and circular design.

Waste sorting across the entire event site led to the following breakdown in 2025:

88% recyclable waste
5% biodegradable waste
7% residual (non-recoverable) waste

In partnership with Redeem, retired event and retail branding is given a second life through upcycling workshops, where guests help transform materials into functional products such as climbing shoe bags.

Sourcing

We prioritise local suppliers and production partners wherever possible, supporting businesses within proximity to the Chamonix region to reduce transport and delivery impact.

Our event infrastructure is designed to be used year after year. With the aim that 70%+ of branding and production equipment is rented, retained or reused.

Food, Beverage & Water

Working with local food partners, we focus on increasing the use of seasonal ingredients while expanding plant-based options across the event.

Current initiatives include:

60%+ seasonal ingredients
55%+ locally sourced ingredients
Reusable cups and recyclable serving materials used across food and beverage operations
Free drinking water stations across the venue
Dry toilets within Parc Couttet

Energy

No fossil fuel energy is used on site. We continue to monitor electricity consumption and work with partners to reduce energy demand across the event.

Travel

Travel represents the largest share of the Academy's emissions, making it one of our biggest areas of focus.

The event is accessible by public transport, and we encourage all attendees to travel by rail, shared transport and other lower-impact options wherever possible. Our partnership with Mountain Drop Offs provides attendees with discounted rates for shared shuttle services between Geneva Airport and Chamonix.

Improving how people travel to and around Chamonix remains one of our highest priorities.

Biodiversity & Maintenance

The Academy supports projects and partnerships that help protect the places where we climb, run and gather in the mountains.

Our work includes:

  • Clinics focused on alpine ecology, biodiversity and environmental stewardship
  • Partnerships with organisations working in sustainable outdoor practice and environmental protection
  • Funding trail, route and mountain infrastructure maintenance projects in partnership with Chamex and the Town of Chamonix
