Clinic 05-FRI: GORE-TEX® mountaineering education level 2 (Friday)


This course is the level 2 of mountaineering clinics on the Academy. The focus here is to learn how to travel and act on a glacier as a “party” or cordée. It will prepare you for basic glacier tours and easy alpine climbs. This includes: roping up together on glaciers, basic crevasse rescue scenarios, ice axe techniques, snow and ice anchors, self-arrest, route planning and advice on equipment.
This course is mandatory for everyone who has never done a glacier tour before.

Requirements: Basic crampon skills, basic mountaineering skills, ability to climb 4 to 6 hours.

Duration: full day

Meeting point/time: 7:00 am at Alpine Village in the town center of Chamonix

Basic mountaineering equipment + crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe, a sling (1.2 m) and a screw-gate karabiner for belays, belay device. Bring your own equipment so that you can practice with what you normally use.
