Clinic 09-SAT: MSR Overnight Bivy Course (Saturday)
This course offers the unique possibility of an overnight bivvy in the Mont-Blanc Massif with two world-class Arc’teryx athletes. Before going onto the glacier, you will prepare for a night on the snow. Later on you will learn essential campcraft skills such as finding the right location, cooking outside, as well experience cold and snowy environment.
You will also learn how to build an emergency snow cave and wind walls to protect the tent in case of a storm. This clinic will be supported by LYOFOOD.
Requirements: Basic mountaineering experience, basic knowledge of walking with crampons.
Duration: starts at 1:00 pm and continues until the next morning. You will be able to join other clinics on Sunday. You cannot join other clinics on Saturday.
Meeting point/time: at Alpine Village in the town center of Chamonix
Location: Plan de l’Aiguille or Top of Grands Montets. TBD with the guides depending on conditions
Additional costs: lift ticket (special deals will be available)
WHAT TO BRING?
Basic mountaineering equipment + crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe, warm clothing, sleeping bag and thermarest, headlamp, shovel
Please note: It is possible to join another clinic on the day the clinic ends.
However, please be aware, that this can be quite stressful (less sleep, early departure,…). If the follow up clinic is on Aiguille du Midi, you will stay on top. If you have to go down and join a clinic on another location, we will do our best to logistically realize this. Potential problems due to weather or other circumstances might occur.
